Movie Monday (errr..Tuesday): A Letter to Three Wives

Movie: A Letter to Three Wives (1949)

Starring: Jeanne Crain, Linda Darnell, Ann Sothern, Kirk Douglas

Summary: Lora May Hollingsway, who grew up next to the wrong side of the tracks, married her boss who thinks she is just a gold digger. Rita Phipps makes as much money writing radio scripts at night as her school teacher husband does. Deborah Bishop looked great in a Navy uniform in WWII but fears she'll never be dressed just right for the Country Club set.

These three wives are boarding a boat filled with children going on a picnic when a messenger on a bicycle hands them a letter addressed to all three from Addie who has just left town with one of their husbands. They won't know which one until that night when they return from the picnic.
Each woman then starts to think back on the past about their husbands relationship with Addie. They each begin to think that it could be there husband who has run off with her. (adapted from IMDB)

They start to evaluate their marriages. What could be better, how it could have been different. What has led to their husband being unfaithful to them? They let their emotions run wild with fear, resentment and bitterness. Each woman begins to comfort each other and reminding each other how it couldn't possibly be their husband.

They return from their trip and head home and get ready for the evening that was earlier planned. They were all going to meet at a local club for dinner and dancing.

A husband doesn't show up. That woman believes it is indeed her husband that has run off with Addie. During dinner, things are speculated, another husband reveals the truth about him and Addie and clears up any confusion.....or is it the truth? Did the one woman's husband actually run off with Addie or was it her friends husband or was it no husband at all?

You'll have to watch to find out the truth!

I adore this movie and could watch it over and over. It has become one of my new favorites. I love the storyline, the acting, the passion these woman feel, the heartache and the realization of each woman's marriage.

I have it in a box set, but surely you could find it on Netflix.

Happy Viewing!
